I am writing this from a perspective of someone who paints and wants to learn more about Bob and his paintings/technique. This book has all of that (it's mostly about his painting, not a ton about him.. but I've heard he was a private person). Beautiful colors. For some of the paintings it has little pictures of his process to get to that final result.
I just spent the most enjoyable two hours exploring this book from cover to cover. The book is top quality throughout filled with some paintings I had seen before and have even attempted to paint. Many others I’d never seen and I’m excited to give them a try with my own brushes. There are several paintings that include play by play instructions, and every so often there is a page with a “Bobism†quote. I found myself chuckling with every one.What a lovely man with the Masters touch exuded in his so peaceful and beautiful art, and through his wisdom of life expressed so eloquently in just a few words. Don’t pass this one up, it’s a gem.
Some people may think that the late Bob Ross was a "one trick pony". In my opinion they are wrong becauseBob Ross knew how to paint. Behind his folksy manner there was an artist who knew how to construct a painting.I have been putting a brush to canvas for years Watching Bob Ross I see & hear some good solid advice on how to paint. Bob Ross was no Rembrandt ,{ quite frankly who is}, but he was no slap dash half wit.I guess one can learn to paint like Bob Ross but it is better to take what you need from him and apply it to your own work. Perhaps his wide spread popularity causes some to dismiss his art. I found this book to a very goodintroduction to the Bob Ross painting technique. The book has very good reproductions that can be studied.
Starting watching 'The Joy Of Painting' back in 1983. I lived in the Evansville, Ind. area and Bob came on every Saturday morning. I could be having a particularly bad day and that little 30 min. painting experience would have my nerves on the mend. Bob was a special gift that God gave to this world and I'm thankful that I got to experience it! Hey, he's even more popular today! Thanks to Bob Ross Inc. and his followers. Mark
I’m giving this 4 stars because the book itself is really great, but only using it as a conversation piece for a bob Ross lover. But in the box, not sure if that is a flea or a tick (in the picture) but it looked like it had its head buried between the pages. Very unsettling to know bugs are being shipped to my house.
